Season Ends For The Galesburg Boys With A Loss To The Defending State Champs In Regional Game

Galesburg Boys Defeat Geneseo To Advance In Regionals

Monday night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg boys basketball team beat Geneseo for the third time this season and advanced in the Regionals. The Silver Streaks won, 57-39, and improve to 11-20 on the season. Galesburg will now play the defending 3A state champs, the Metamora Redbirds, Wednesday night in the Geneseo Regional Semifinals game.
Galesburg shot 42% from the field and 35% from 3-point range. The Silver Streaks won in the turnover battle, only giving up the ball 8 times to Geneseo's 14 turnovers. Galesburg is 7-1 when they commit fewer turnovers than their opponent. And with a win in their final game at John Thiel Gym this season, the Silver Streaks have a winning record on their home court at 8-6. They played less than half of their games at home this season.
The Streaks were led in scoring by Jackson Crock Sibbing with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, Jace Keith scored 16 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Ethan Oxley had 8 points with 6 rebounds, Gino Williams finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists, while Tyree Tayler scored 7 points with 4 rebounds.
In the 3rd quarter, Geneseo cut the lead down to 4 points at 29-25. But on the Maple Leafs' first missed shot of the quarter, Jackson Crock Sibbing got the rebound, and then on the other end drained a 3-point shot to end the Maple Leafs' scoring run at that point. For that clutch 3-pointer to swing the momentum back to Galesburg, and for achieving his career high in rebounds for a game, Jackson Crock Sibbing was named the Dave’s Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. JCS finished the night with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Galesburg continues in the Regional playing next at Geneseo against the #1 ranked Metamora Redbirds in the semifinal game. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you the action starting with the pregame at 5:40 Wednesday (2/21) night on 93.7 FM & 1400 AM WGIL, as well as streaming on wgil.com.
