Rebuild over remodel: Soangetaha opts for modern clubhouse

An historic Galesburg clubhouse that has played host to numerous events — from elegant dinners, to social events, from wedding receptions to class reunions, business gatherings and much more — will soon be demolished to make room for a new facility.

Having slipped structurally to the point where a majority of members believe a rebuild makes more sense financially than a remodel, the iconic clubhouse at Soangetaha Country Club will fall victim to the wrecking ball in the coming days.

Construction on a smaller yet more modern facility will begin soon there after, and a new 6,800 square foot clubhouse is expected open for members by May 2025. The current clubhouse is 15,400 square feet.

Longtime member and current president of the Soangetaha Country Club board, Pete Kehoe, along with two other longtime members — Denise Foote, and her daughter Christy Tapper — join WGIL's Jay Redfern to talk about the project.
