The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team started off the new year with a solid victory over the Rockford Jefferson J-Hawks, 65-49. The Streaks got off to a fast start in the first quarter, but Rockford Jefferson would hang around by cutting a 14-point Streaks lead into a 5-point one by the third quarter. Galesburg would utilize a 14-3 run to eventually come away with a 16-point victory. The win improves the Streaks to 8-6 on the season.
Cesaire Bile was the Streaks leading scorer with 21 points of which 9 came off of 3 three-pointers in the first quarter. Eden Mayala contributed with 13. Jaxon Wyatt scored 11 points, all in the third quarter. His performance at that phase of the game gave him the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game as he would also finish with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and a steal. The Silver Streaks shot 27 of 53 from the field, were great from deep at 6 for 8, and were 50% at the line going 5 of 10. They had 39 rebounds, 20 assists, and 23 turnovers.
The Streaks will play again tomorrow in what will be a busy month of January, as they play Bloomington in the Sandburg Shootout on the campus of Carl Sandburg College.
