Saturday (1/11) afternoon, the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team traveled to LaSalle-Peru Township High School and came away with a dominating 49 - 14 win over the Cavaliers. The Streaks are now 17 - 3 on the season.
It was another defensive juggernaut by the Silver Streaks who caused the Cavaliers to turn the ball over 34 times.
Galesburg had balanced scoring among several players including Ella Herchenroder with 9 points, Cora Johnson scored 7 points, Zaniyah Carter and Lily Furrow both contributed 6 points. Overall the Streaks were 21 of 49 from the field, 5 of 18 from the 3-point line, and 2 0f 6 from the free throw line. They had 24 rebounds, 13 assists and 18 turnovers.
Crunch time for the Streaks came in the 1st quarter of this game, and coming off the bench providing the spark that the team needed was Zaniyah Carter with very aggressive defensive play and sharp ball passing among many other contributions. Zaniyah finished with 6 points, 3 assists, 5 steals and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game.
