The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team continued their winning ways Thursday night at John Thiel Gym with another conference win over the Alleman Pioneers, 47 - 25. The Streaks are now 19 -1 on the season and 7 - 1 in the Western Big 6.
It was a balanced offensive effort by the Silver Streaks with 8 players contributing to the scoring. They were led by Zaniyah Carter with 15 points, Grace Herchenroder finished with 8, Taylor Herchenroder had 7, and Jozalyn Kilgore scored 6 points. Galesburg shot 20 of 46 from the field, 3 of 11 from three point range, and 4 0f 9 from the charity stripe. They pulled down 26 rebounds, had 14 assists, and committed 15 turnovers. The Streaks' defense forced 30 turnovers by the Pioneers.
Grace Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She drained a couple of shots in the 2nd half that were real momentum killers for Alleman. In addition to scoring 8 points, she had 3 offensive rebounds, an assist and a steal while playing solid defense on the night as well.
Next up for the Galesburg girls is a long road trip to Wilmette, Illinois, to take on the Loyola Academy Ramblers Saturday afternoon. Mitch McVey and Jason Wessels will take the road trip as well and bring you all the action starting with the pregame at 1:15 on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.
