The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team kicked off the new year with a home win over the Pekin Dragons, 50-23. Galesburg turned a 5-point first quarter lead into an 18-point one by halftime. The Streaks would cruise the rest of the way to improve to 16-1 on the season. The victory marks the 40th in the young career of head coach Lexi Demott as well as avenge a lost to Pekin last season.
Eight Silver Streaks scored with Zaniyah Carter leading the way at 10 points. Lily Furrow added 9 with Jozalyn Kilgore and Taylor Herchenroder scoring 7 points each. For her defensive efforts which saw her nab 5 steals, Ella Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished with 9 points and 3 assists to go along with her 5 steals. Galesburg finished the game 21 of 48 from the field, 5 of 17 from deep, and 3 of 9 from the charity stripe. They had 34 rebounds, 14 assists, and 13 turnovers.
