Twenty years ago, a handful of city employees who loved cars started a cruise downtown. When they moved on, a small car club with no membership fee and a “come to two meetings, you’re in” policy picked it up rather than let it die. Now the New Limited Rods of Western Illinois run River 2 River — 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 18, in downtown Galesburg — with about a dozen volunteers, and hand out more vocational scholarship money than anyone else standing at the podium. Greg “Chops” Bacon and Don Rosenberry explain the 20-year story, the student-built Cobra rolling in Saturday, and the actual meaning of “power parking.”
