‘Run For Your Life’ Fundraiser for Hope Cemetery

Listen to the latest episode of Galesburg’s Morning News as we explore the 2nd Annual "Run For Your Life" 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk, set for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24  at Hope Cemetery. Jack Templeton, board member of the Hope Cemetery Association, details this family-friendly fundraiser, welcoming runners, walkers, and costumed participants for a relaxed, scenic course led by a hearse. Funds support the cemetery’s new scattering garden, a sustainable revenue source, and urgent maintenance like tree removal, as the historic site faces a $4,000-$6,000 annual deficit. Local historian and retired judge Harry Bulkeley traces the cemetery’s 1836 origins, spotlighting figures like Reverend George Washington Gale and Civil War hero George Williams. Visit getmeregistered.com to register or donate to the Hope Cemetery Association-Maintenance Fund to help preserve Galesburg’s history.
