Second Win In As Many Nights For The Galesburg Girls Basketball Team

In an effort to make up for some games that were cancelled during the last couple of weeks due to the weather, the Galesburg girls basketball team took a long road trip to Serena for a non-conference match-up with the Huskers Tuesday night. It was a battle between two 21-win teams going into the game, with the Silver Streaks coming away with the win, 63-38.

The Silver Streaks dominated the boards with 42 rebounds, including 20 on the offensive end. A good shooting night overall with Galesburg making 38% of their shots from the field.  Kiarra Kilgore was the scoring leader with 30 points and notched another double-double with 11 rebounds, as well as 6 steals and 2 assists.

Galesburg played a strong defensive game as well, including a very disruptive full court press. A big part of that effort was freshman Ella Herchenroder who wreaked havoc on Serena's offense, getting 5 steals in the game, and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game.

Next up is Senior Night for the Galesburg girls at John Thiel Gym on Thursday (2/01) night when they take on the Geneseo Maple Leafs. Pregame coverage with Tom Meredith and Erik Gibson will begin at about 6:40 Thursday night on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.
