The Billtown Bomber – Bob Anderson

For the first time in 46 years, Bob Anderson is not coaching high school basketball.

Anderson — who built a resume that includes 732 career victories, an Elite Eight state tournament appearance and a plaque in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame — retired as the boys basketball coach at ROWVA/Williamsfield in early December 2023.

A 1965 Williamsfield High School graduate where he starred for the Bombers before going on to a successful playing career at Western Illinois University, Anderson had coached varsity basketball since 1979-80.

Anderson positively impacted the lives of hundreds of former players, not to mention the community and the game of Illinois high school basketball.

Talk to his former players, and they’ll say Bob Anderson exemplified the traits it takes to make a difference in the world. They’ll tell you he didn’t just talk the talk — he walked the walk.

In this episode of Galesburg In Focus, Bob Anderson joins WGIL’s Jay Redfern to discuss his long and successful career.
