Auditions will be at Prairie Players Civic Theatre\, 160 South Seminary Street\, Galesburg. \n  \nThose interested who cannot make the scheduled auditions should contact Director Katy Redington at klrobinson0224@gmail.com to schedule an audition time prior to September 9. \nThe audition will consist of cold readings from the script and singing a preselected Christmas carol for those who would like to be considered for any solo singing opportunities. DESCRIPTION:Join the Prime Beef Festival and Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Young Leaders for their 3rd Annual Fall Festival 5K Run/Walk through Monmouth Park on Saturday\, September 10th at 8:00 a.m.   Registration on Saturday will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the west side (airport side) of the street near the derby track. \n  \nRegistration forms are available at the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau office as well as their website http://whfarmbureau.org/.   Online registration is also available through a link listed on the website. The t-shirt design for the 5K can be seen on the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Facebook page and their website.   For those who would like to have a t-shirt but are not interested in running\, a t-shirt order form is also available. DESCRIPTION:The Henry County Historical Society will be hosting an “Old Gun Appraisal and Disposal / Donation Event” at their Henry County Museum located at 202 S. Park St. in Bishop Hill\, IL on September 10\, 2016. The hours will be 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. \n$10 per gun suggested donation. \nNote: This is not a gun show. No guns will change hands the day of the event. Spectators are welcome. \nImportant: No live ammunition will be permitted on the premises. \nImportant information regarding the legal transportation of firearms in Illinois: \nAnyone in possession of a firearm in Illinois must have a FOID card. \nFirearms must be unloaded and in an appropriate case or\, wrapped up and tied in a sheet\, drop cloth or blanket and placed out of the reach of the driver\, preferably in the trunk or cargo area of the vehicle. \n  \nThe purpose of the event is to raise funds for the museum\, provide people\, who may have old guns in their house with a way to learn what they are\, what they are worth\, and\, if they do not want them\, to offer a safe legal\, tax deductible\, means of disposal by donating them for the benefit of the museum. \nThe Museum will have two consultants\, with a vast knowledge of old firearms and their values\, on hand. They will examine each gun\, identify the make and model\, provide a little history about it\, and determine a value range. Then\, there is no obligation\, if the owner wishes\, arrangements can be made to donate the item to the museum. The Henry County Historical Society will then determine whether\, or not\, it suits the museum’s display purposes and either put it on display\, or transport it to the Rock Island Auction Company for sale with the proceeds going to benefit the museum. The Rock Island Auction Company is the nation’s leading auction house for firearms\, edged weapons\, and military artifacts. \n  \n  \n

The cruise will run from 10 AM until 3 PM and this year the Post has added a car swap meet also. 12×12 booths are available to rent for $20.00. Lunch will be available to purchase from 11-2. The ladies auxiliary will be hosting a outdoor/indoor flea market on that day as well. Indoor tables may be rented for $30.00 and outdoor for $20.00. \nThe Post will hold a service of remembrance at 1:00 PM honoring our fallen heroes from this area who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9-11. DESCRIPTION:The Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau \nand The Hispanic Latino Resource Group\, Inc. present \n“The History of Mexican Railroad Boxcar Communities in the Chicago Area and the Midwest” by Dr. Antonio Delgado \nTuesday\, September 13\, 2016 \n6:00 pm Galesburg Public Library \nFree and open to the public. \nSuitable for general audiences and all age groups. \nAbout the Program: \nRailroads were essential to the growth and development of the United States. Since the 1910’s\, throughout the U.S. and particularly the Midwest\, very large numbers of Mexican immigrants were employed by the railroads. Mexican immigrant railroad workers and their families literally lived on railroad property\, in railroad boxcars and “section houses.”  The audience will learn about these railroad boxcar communities populated by Mexicans in the Chicago metro area and the Midwestern states of Illinois\, Iowa\, Missouri\, and Kansas\, particularly during the period between 1910 and the 1950s.  The presentation will highlight the vibrant social and cultural life of these Mexican settlers who lived in the railroad boxcar communities.  It will also include discussion of the injustices and challenges of living in an often prejudicial environment. \nThe goal of this presentation is to highlight the positive contributions of Mexican railroad workers to the development and growth of the Midwest in the early to mid-twentieth century.  It will compare anti-immigrant practices experienced by these early Mexican settlers with similar occurrences today.  Integrating these missing pages of history will foster a greater understanding and appreciation of our Mexican and Mexican-American neighbors. Historical photographs\, maps\, political cartoons\, and other period images\, combined with historical analysis\, will tell this important\, yet little-known American story. \n
