DESCRIPTION:GriefShare is a 13-week seminar and support group for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one due to death. The group meets in the chapel at First United Methodist Church\, 120 N. Kellogg St. Galesburg at two different times beginning Wednesday\, January 15\, 2025. The morning session is from 9:00 – 11:00. The evening session is from 5:30 – 7:30. Cost will be $20 for a Participant Guide. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Scholarships are available for workbooks. If School District 205 is closed due to bad weather\, the Church will be closed and GriefShare will not be held. \nFor additional information\, or to register\, please contact the Church office at 309-342-3197.

SUMMARY:Wild Game Feed
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, we hold an event at the Abingdon American Legion called “The Wild Game Feed.” This year’s date is Saturday the 8th of February. This is an event that is open to the public to both attend as well as sign up to bring a dish of choice\, potluck style\, to be shared with those who attend. Some of these dishes can be quite unique\, and in the past have included things like Squirrel tacos\, Italian Beaver\, BBQ Wild Boar\, Goose Stroganoff\, BBQ Coon\, Turtle Gumbo\, Venison Jambalaya\, Southwest Pheasant Stew\, Dove Jalapeno Poppers\, along with a smorgasbord of others. \nIt first started in 2017\, as the result of a last-minute idea to hold an event with a free will offering\, with the intent of raising and donating the proceeds to a local non-profit outreach. After discussion\, we chose to go with the non-profit 501c3 corporation\, Feed My Lambs. Feed my Lambs is a community outreach based in Abingdon\, IL which provides food throughout the year to less fortunate families in our community. There are 5 churches in Abingdon that are all a part of this organization and work together to provide weekend snack packs during the school year\, delivering holiday baskets\, helping with groceries during the summer\, providing lunches at Camp Park\, to holding an annual Back to School Picnic where children not only receive a meal\, but also backpacks filled with school supplies. \nOur first year\, we raised $340.\nOur second year\, we raised $800.\nOur third year\, we raised $1\,000.\nOur fourth year\, we raised $2\,383.\nUnfortunately\, we missed two years due to COVID\, however when we started back up again in 2023\, we began receiving sponsors and raffle donations and ended up doing our biggest year yet\, raising a whopping $7\,000! This past year\, in 2024\, we surpassed even that\, raising a total of $7\,429. Due in large part to the support that we have received from hunters and fisherman from throughout the area\, we have proudly raised and donated over $19\,000 to Feed My Lambs.
