DESCRIPTION:Galesburg NAACP Branch 3016 invites you to an evening of celebration and empowerment at their Freedom Fund Gala on Saturday\, September 28th at Cedar Creek Hall\, 571 E North St.  Internationally known teacher\, lecturer and diversity trainer\, Jane Elliott will be the keynote speaker. \nJane Elliott is best known for her “Blue eyes/Brown eyes” exercise\, which she first conducted in 1968 with her third grade class in response to the assassination of Martin Luther King\, Jr. The classroom exercise was filmed in 1970\, becoming the documentary The Eye of the Storm. Ms. Elliott is considered the forerunner of diversity training and has done such training for corporations such as General Electric\, Exxon\, AT&T and IBM as well as lectured to the FBI\, IRS\, US Navy\, US Department of Education and the US Postal Service.  She has spoken at over 350 colleges and universities and appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show five times. \nFounded in 1908 the NAACP’s mission is to secure the political\, educational\, social\, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all individuals.  Since the local chapter reactivated in 2012\, it has been at the forefront of our city’s tough issues and they continue to challenge and stand-up against injustice. \nBesides the keynote speaker\, the Freedom Fund Gala includes dinner\, silent auction and more.  Doors open at 5:00pm.
