SUMMARY:Julie McVey Reading Day - Step Up Challenge
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Julie’s Little Libraries\, we have created Julie McVey Reading Day\, which will include a virtual walk/run\, a live children’s walk/run\, and a morning reading festival. The first Julie McVey Reading Day will be held on Saturday\, July 27\, 2019 at Monmouth’s Public Square. \nTo join us in our efforts to raise funds in Julie’s honor\, please consider signing up now for our virtual fundraising challenge! The process is easy and the virtual race is designed specifically to fit into your schedule! \nYou have three months to complete seven miles of physical activity and log it. Walk on the treadmill or step machine\, swim\, ride your bike…whatever works for you! iPhone/Apple owners can use their iPhone\, Apple Watch\, or Fitbit to track their miles; those with Google or Android devices can use GoogleFit or Fitbit. If you are not comfortable tracking miles that way\, simply track them yourself and let us know when you are done! \nIf you are unable to participate in the virtual race\, you can still support this campaign by making a monetary donation (simply click on the “donate” tab at the top of the page and follow the prompts). Thank you in advance for your generosity and for helping us celebrate a life so well lived. \nThis is a community event\, in cooperation with Warren County Libraries\, Monmouth College’s Education Department\, Monmouth College’s Classes 03’-06’\, United School District\, Monmouth-Roseville School District\, Buchanan Center for the Arts\, West Central Leadership\, The City of Monmouth\, Warren County Eagle Scouts\, and the Ronald and Cassandra Shawler Memorial Library.

SUMMARY:"Monmouth in Merida" Discussion
DESCRIPTION:A popular site for tourists\, Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula has also been the site for the past three springs of a semester-abroad experience for Monmouth College students. \nAt the final Monmouth Associates program of the academic year on May 16\, Monmouth faculty members Ken Cramer and Trudi Peterson will discuss what Monmouth students experienced in and around the beautiful and vibrant host city of the program\, Mérida. \nThe program will begin at noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Student Center. \n“Monmouth in Mérida” gives students an opportunity to fully immerse themselves in a Spanish-speaking culture for a full semester at the same cost as staying on campus. In addition to their regular courses – which includes two taught in Spanish – students are given an optional service-learning opportunity and stay with host families. \nWith biweekly excursions to cenotes\, ruins\, natural areas and a Mayan village\, students receive broad exposure to local culture\, both ancient and modern. An additional trip during Holy Week – this year to Cuba – expands their Caribbean experience. \nThe cost for a buffet lunch is $10 ($9 for Monmouth faculty and staff). Reservations can be made by calling 309-457-2231 by May 14 or by email at alumni@monmouthcollege.edu. \nA free shuttle van transports passengers from two locations to every Associates luncheon. The van stops at the northeast quadrant of the Public Square at 11:45 a.m. and at the Faith United Presbyterian Church parking lot at around 11:50 a.m. It returns to both locations immediately following the program. Shuttle reservations can be made also by calling 309-457-2231.

Others are a spinster with a curious background\, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef\, a retired Army major\, a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift\, and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. Into their midst comes a policeman\, traveling on skis. He no sooner arrives\, when the jurist is killed. To get to the rationale of the murderer’s pattern\, the policeman probes the background of everyone present\, and rattles a lot of skeletons.
