Knox Hands Around the Courthouse
April 21, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeApril is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. In recognition, Victim Services sexual assault counselors and advocates are hosting events to raise awareness of this traumatic crime in Knox County and educate the public about ways they can help to end the cycle of abuse.
The public is welcome to attend the Hands Around the Courthouse community event on Thursday, April 21, 2022, on the steps of the Knox County Courthouse, 200 South Cherry Street, Galesburg, Illinois 61401. The event will start promptly at 2:00 p.m. and is expected to end at 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. It is free and open to the public.
Hands Around the Courthouse is informational and interactive. It will begin with statements given by counselors and advocates of Victim Services. Afterwards, anyone from the audience who wants to participate will be asked to hold a blue child abuse awareness ribbon and form a circle around the courthouse. During the event, t-shirts designed by child survivors of abuse will be on display as part of The Clothesline Project.
Free and confidential resources will be available at the Victim Services informational booth for anyone who may be interested in the agency and its services. Counselors, including those who specialize in helping children, will be available to any survivors who want to have a confidential conversation.
If you have any questions about this special awareness event, please call the Victim Services business line at (309) 836-2148 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We hope to see you there!
