DESCRIPTION:Knox County Master Gardeners present their 20th annual plant sale on Mother’s Day weekend at the Knox County Nursing Home. Master Gardeners divide some of their best varieties of perennials in an effort to raise money to help maintain the historic gardens at the nursing home. \nCome out and take a look on Friday\, May 11 or on Saturday\, May 12 from 8am to 5pm.  The Master Gardeners will have for sale hand dug perennials\, vegetables\, annuals and houseplants. While you are there\, take a tour of the gardens with one of our volunteers.  Master Gardeners will be on site to answer all of your gardening questions.  All proceeds beautify the nursing home grounds and residents program.

The United Way of Knox County has partnered with Heart & Soul\, Pay It For-WARD\, Solutions\, Gale Scholars\, the Kiwanis Club\, the City of Galesburg and the NALC to expand the scope of this event.   \nVolunteers can choose from several projects this year:\n•	Stocking the Rotary Libraries with donated children’s books\n•	Joining the Park and Neighborhood Cleanup at the Kiwanis Park\n•	Landscaping and cleaning at the YMCA Early Learning Center\n•	Sorting and stocking donated food items at FISH Food Pantry\n•	Painting at Camp Big Sky\n•	Getting Camp Kidz ready for the season \nBut before you head out to help\, we urge you to leave a donation of non-perishable food by your mailbox for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!   \nVolunteers can register via our website at: http://www.unitedway-knoxcounty.org \nThere are so many organizations who work tirelessly to make a difference in our community\, and we are glad to partner with them. SUMMARY:Western Illinois Wind Band Spring Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Western Illinois Wind Band will present their Spring Concert on May 15. 2018 at 7 pm at the Avon Grade School. The Concert Band is directed by Bernie Potter and will feature vocal soloist Tammy Weaver and Guest Conductors Fred Herink\, Katherine Janssen\, and Deanna Chatterton on the program.  \nDuring this concert\, the Band will take the audience on a journey through time covering 100 years of music from musicals\, movies\, and great composers whose music you will recognize and enjoy. George M. Cohan\, Rogers and Hammerstein\, John Williams\, Hans Zimmer\, Andrew Lloyd Weber\, Robert Hawkins\, Marvin Hamlisch\, and Paul McCartney are all a part of the musical journey.   \nGuest vocal soloist Tammy Weaver will present a wide variety of styles as she performs The Way We Were\, Highlights from CATS\, and Jump\, Jive\, and Wail\, accompanied by the ensemble. \nA wide variety of music will be presented from Star Wars to Chariots of Fire\, Forest Gump ro E.T.\, Pirates of the Caribbean to Surrey with the Fringe on top\, to Grand Old Flag and How The West Was Won\, with James Bond’s Live and Let Die and Driving Miss Daisy. Something for everyone to recognize and enjoy.  \nThere is no admission for the concert. A Free Will Offering will be collected. The community is invited to attend and enjoy these excellent musicians who travel to weekly from throughout Central Illinois to Avon to practice and perform three concerts each year. DESCRIPTION:Prairie Players Civic Theatre will hold auditions for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare\, Abridged\, on Saturday\, May 19\, from 4-6 p.m.\, and Tuesday\, May 22\, from 7-9 p.m. at Prairie Players Civic Theatre\, 160 South Seminary Street\, Galesburg\, Illinois. \nIn this irreverent\, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s plays\, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) weaves its wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies\, histories\, and tragedies (37 in all) in one wild 97-minute ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter. \nWe are seeking five performers for the production. DESCRIPTION:This event is free and open to the public! \nKids\, come out to the Lincoln Park lagoons to try your luck at catching a fish! The check-in to get goodie bags starts at noon\, and the fishing begins at 1:00 PM. The first 500 youth to check-in get a goodie bag that includes a ticket for a chance to win a prize with their first catch of the day!\n\nChildren 2-15 years of age may participate. Participants should bring their own bait and pole. Some fishing poles will be available to borrow\, but supplies are limited.\n\nHot dogs\, chips\, and sodas will be available.\n\nCo-sponsored by City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation Department and the Fishing Derby Committee.
