Grief can be paralyzing. One might think that after time\, grief just fades away\, but it doesn’t. It can hit you like a wave even years after the loss. GriefShare is a 13-week program that teaches about grief\, offers suggestions for how to deal with the struggles\, and shares what the Bible says about grief. One would think that everyone just sits around a table and cries the entire session. How depressing that would be! Who needs that? That is not what GriefShare is like. Yes\, there may be tears shed. We have extra soft Kleenex for those moments! But it is so much more. There is no judgment when feelings and fears are expressed. Friendships are formed quickly and participants support each other wholeheartedly. Tears quickly turn to laughter. If someone walked past the chapel during GriefShare\, they may hear so much laughter that they can’t believe it is a grief support group. God’s presence is surely in this place. Don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you from attending. \n*Please note: GriefShare will not meet if Galesburg CUSD #205 is closed due to weather. The missed session will be rescheduled for the following week.

DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to celebrate this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Monmouth College. \nThe College will commemorate King’s legacy with a convocation at noon on Jan. 20 in Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. The event – which will feature a keynote by nationally known poet and spoken-word artist Harold Green (pictured) of Chicago – is free and open to the public. \n“We’re excited to feature an artist at this year’s Martin Luther King\, Jr. convocation\,” said Monmouth faculty member Dan Ott\, one of the organizers of the College’s annual celebration of the life and ideals of the slain civil rights leader. \nAlso at the convocation\, the College’s Colorful Voices of Praise dancers will perform. The convocation will be emceed by Monmouth students Drew Thaxton ’21 of Decatur\, Ill.\, and Deshja Meyers ’22 of Davenport\, Iowa. Meyers will also sing at the event. \nFollowing the convocation\, the College will sponsor a day of service in the community for Monmouth students. \n“Our day of service continues to grow\,” said Ott. “We will have more sites and we are building deeper relationships with our community partners.”

DESCRIPTION:Galesburg Sunrise Rotary Club will have a very interesting speaker at our next meeting.  John Ockenfels\, of Iowa City\, will present the program “Around the World Flight to End Polio” on Tuesday\, January 21.  Mr. Ockenfels is a regular attendee of the Stearman Fly-in and past District Governor of the Iowa City District of Rotary.  He and another pilot plan to fly a single engine plane around the world this spring to raise money and awareness for the fight to end polio.  Funds raised by the flight will be matched 2-for-1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. \nThe meeting will start at 7:00am on Tuesday\, January 21\, in the Skylight Room of Seymour Union on the Knox College Campus.  There is no cost for admission\, but donations will be accepted to end polio.  Breakfast is available at 6:45am for a cost of $8.  The public and prospective members are welcome.
