Authorities in Henderson County are investigating after what would be described as a startling discovery.
Quad Cities television station WHBF reports that a logging company found a human skull on the Illinois side of Burlington Island.
The skull reportedly washed up Thursday, and Henderson County Coroner Kris Beals says it was discovered in an adult-sized helmet.
Beals says the skull was taken to Peoria for a forensic exam and to see if any DNA can be recovered.
