Public Safety Building To See $300,000 Renovation this Fall

public safety 1The home base for law enforcement in Galesburg will soon begin to see renovations.

The Public Safety building on Broad Street is expected to receive up to $300,000 in upgrades–many of which will be cosmetic improvements.

That’s according to Police Chief David Christensen, who says new double paned windows, roofing, asbestos filled tile removal, and an upgraded locker room area are just a few of the renovations in the works.

Christensen tells WGIL that it was time to make a long term investment in the building.

“I wouldn’t say that we’ve never done any upgrades, but this will be one of the more significant ones that has been done in the recent years,” says Christensen. “Some of the public won’t notice much work, if any, but it is certainly work that needs to be done around here. We’ve been in this building since 1976–almost 40 years. These upgrades are going to be important and good for the Public Safety Building.”

The upgrades will be done in multiple phases. Bids are expected to be received next month. Christensen says he expects work to begin this October, and that the majority of the project should be completed by next Spring.public safety 2

The chief also says finances for that project will be taken from drug forfeiture money.
