Library to sell book about Galesburg

The Library Board of Trustees voted yesterday to purchase and sell 500 copies of a book put together by Galesburg Public Library Archivist Patty Mosher.

The book, titled “Images of America: Galesburg” is a collection of the library’s images that showcases the city.
Mosher told the board she was pleased with the final product.

“I think they did a wonderful job putting it all together,” Mosher said. “So, I’m just glad it’s done.”

Mosher’s book will retail for about $22 and will be available at the library and online November 16th. Proceeds go to the Public Library.
Also approved during yesterday’s meeting was the library’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget, which is balanced at $1.55 million.

Another topic discussed was the future site of the library on Main Street. Library Director Harriett Zipfel tells WGIL the project is in motion, but no timeframe is known.

“The main reason for that is that we have been told that we are a recipient of a grant but the funds for the grant have not been allocated by our state legislators,” Zipfel says, “and until that happens we are at a standstill as far as the state goes.”

The next step in the new library project involves finding how much asbestos abatement will cost in the buildings at the Main Street site.
