The Knox County YMCA has announced their goal for this year’s support campaign.

YMCA CEO Adam Sampson says he hopes to bring in $115,000 to offset the annual costs of local programs.

“The Knox County YMCA provides about $420,000 worth of scholarships and subsidies,” Sampson says. “Those include the Solutions program, working with at-risk youth, our before and after school programs, our summer ventures for programs over the summer for kids.”

Other programs include the Early Learning Center that provides day care services and scholarships that let kids take advantage of the Carl Sandburg Drive facility.

Sampson says donations can come from just about anywhere.

“They come from people that make donations as large as $5,000 to people that make $10 donations,” he says. “They come from the employees. Employees believe in what we’re doing so much, that we’ve raised over $10,000 just from our staff alone.”

The support campaign is separate from the Y’s capital campaign, which has a goal of more than $1 million to open a downtown workout facility. Sampson says he’ll have more information available on that in the coming days.
