The Galesburg High School baseball team will begin its spring break with a trip to Lake Buena Vista, Florida to play against teams from elsewhere in the nation. The GHS squad will head to Midway Airport in Chicago following Friday’s game with Rock Island. Silver Streaks head coach Arnie Gonzalez says the schedule includes games against teams from New York, Ohio, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida, as well as an opening contest against Whitney Young out of Chicago. The team has been making the trip to Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex on an every-other-year basis, and does all of its own fundraising. Coach Gonzalez says in addition to sharpening their baseball skills, the players are involved in team bonding situations, and yes, encouraged to have fun as well. He noted that for some, it will be their first airplane flight, and their first journey to Florida, and his hope is that the memories of these experiences will last a lifetime for the kids.
