Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” Ruth (Ritter) Jones, 89, of Macomb, Illinois formerly of Abingdon, Illinois died at 10:25 pm Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Wesley Village Nursing Home, Macomb.
She was born June 3, 1928 in Monmouth, Illinois the daughter of Joseph E. and S. Irene Watson Ritter. She married W. Dale Jones on November 23, 1946 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1995.
Dottie is survived by one son, Rev. David Dale Jones of Waukomis, Oklahoma; her daughter, Patricia Irene Jones of Macomb; one sister, Betty Jo Ottoson of Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Donald Dale Jones, two brothers, William E. and Harold K. Ritter, two sisters, Harriett I. Antonides and Frances L. Clark, and a great granddaughter.
Dottie had worked for W.T. Grant and J.C. Penney in Galesburg. Her main role was being a farm wife and mother. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1946 and had attended Carl Sandburg College. Dottie was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered as a home room mother. She was an active member of the Abingdon Christian Church, serving as a deaconess and chairperson. She also was on the membership committee for the church.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Abingdon Christian Church. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
