CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) – Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot inside a Champaign home where an older teenager suffered a gunshot wound.
The Champaign County coroner says Elijha James Booker of Champaign died soon after he was shot about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at a home he was visiting on the city’s northwest side. The News-Gazette reports he was an eighth-grader at Franklin STEAM Academy.
Police later learned a 17-year-old boy also in the house had been shot but was treated and released from a local hospital. Lt. Nate Rath said detectives were interviewing the young people and adults who were in the house to determine what led up to the shootings.
