Davenport woman pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit murder

A Davenport, Iowa, woman — on trial for the stabbing of a Galesburg man in 2018 — pleaded guilty in Knox County Circuit Court Thursday to one of four charges.

21-year-old Lauren D. Valerius pleaded guilty in front of Judge Scott Shipplett to Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder, a Class One felony.

She had three other charges against her, two Class X charges of Solicitation/Murder For Hire and Attempted First Degree Murder, and a Class Three charge of Aggravated Battery.

Her sentencing date is set for Thursday, March 12. Valerius’ attorney, Katherine Drummond, tells WGIL that the other three charges will be dismissed at that hearing.

A Class One felony typically has a sentencing range of four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The other individuals arrested in the June stabbing of Nathan J. Goehl were Knoxville residents Matthew D. Hale, Bradley P. Detmers, and Hayden T. Clark.

Hale will be back in a Knox County courtroom on Tuesday, January 21 for a scheduled trial. Detmers and Clark will be back in court for pre-trial hearings Monday, February 3.
