Hostens to be promoted to Deputy Chief

The vacant role of Deputy Chief of the Galesburg Police Department is getting filled next month.

It was announced Friday morning that Lt. Daniel Hostens will be promoted to the second-in-command role in a ceremony on Tuesday, September 8 at 11:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

Hostens will fill the role left behind by Rod Riggs, who retired two weeks ago. Riggs began his career with GPD in 1989 as a patrol officer and held the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant, and for nine years, as Police Captain.

Additional promotions will take place, including Sgt. Darrin Worsfold and Sgt. Bryan Anderson being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, officers Patrick Kisler and Ryne Sage to Sergeant, and the hiring of Nathan Lewis to patrol officer.

Attendance will be kept to the allowable amount and masks are required. Individuals being promoted and sworn-in are allowed to invite immediate family and close friends.
