On New Year’s Day just after 8:30 pm, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Grand Liquor on Grand Avenue for a robbery in progress. Employees told police that a male subject entered the store, approached an employee, pointed a power drill at the employee, and demanded, “give me all your money.” The store employee initially thought the subject was joking, but the subject then stepped behind the counter and made the same threat to another employee at one point stating, “do you want to see if it works?” – referring to the power drill.  The subject then grabbed a pair of liquor bottles and fled from the store. An employee chased the subject to the 900 block of East Main Street where they were apprehended by police and Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies. The subject was 19-year old Michael Shelton of Galesburg. Surveillance video of the incident confirmed the employee’s accounts. Shelton was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Aggravated Robbery. Back on December 18th, WGIL reported a male subject attempted to rob the East Main Street Circle K with a power drill spray-painted to look like a gun before fleeing with just a bottle of Captain Morgan rum.
