COVID activity on the rise in Knox County

Cases of Coronavirus Disease are increasing in Knox County.

According to a release from the Knox County Health Department, 22 new cases of COVID-19 were reported between Friday, March 26th, and Monday, March 29th.

New case numbers had diminished to single-digit increases over the same four-day weekend less than a month ago. On March 2, three new cases were reported over the same four days.

The new cases include:

  • 1 female <10
  • 1 male <10
  • 3 females 10s
  • 2 males 20s
  • 2 females 30s
  • 4 males 30s
  • 3 females 40s
  • 1 male 40s
  • 1 male 50s
  • 1 female 60s
  • 3 males 60s

In total, the county has now seen 5,164 cases of the novel viral disease since the beginning of the pandemic.

This mirrors the increasing activity around the nation as the vaccine rollout continues and more states loosen restrictions and open back up.

There are some positives. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health today, Knox County has administered 25,112 COVID-19 vaccines and 9,605 county residents (or 19.17 percent) have been fully vaccinated.

Compared with March 2, only 10.4 percent of the population was fully vaccinated.
