Daniel Stoerzbach, Galesburg lawyer and distinguished community member, passes away at 63

A prominent member of the Galesburg community passed away this week.

Galesburg area lawyer Daniel Stoerzbach died on Sunday at his home surrounded by his wife, Cynthia, and daughters. He was 63 years old.

According to his obituary, he was born in 1958 to Robert and Beverly Stoerzbach. Daniel would graduate from Galesburg High School in 1976, Illinois Wesleyan University in 1980, and then earn his Juris Doctorate from University of Illinois law school in 1983.

Daniel was a prolific golfer, winning the Junio All-City Championship in 1974 and ’75 and winning the Men’s All-City Championship in 1978 and ’79. His excellence in golf continued at the collegiate level, where he was an NCAA All-American golfer and MVP in 1978, ’79, and in ’80.

In 1983, after receiving his law degree, he joined Barash and Stoerzbach Law in 1983 and practicing law with his father until 2007 when he’d start his own firm.

Besides sharing in outdoor hobbies with his wife, Daniel was heavily involved in the community, being a member of Sunrise Rotary, a board member of Knox County IL CEO, and providing Professional services for Habitat for Humanity.

While private services will be held Sunday, the family is extending an open invitation to join them for a reception in his honor at Soangetaha Country Club from 12 pm-3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions include Habitat for Humanity, National Stearman Foundation, Galesburg Community Foundation, the Galesburg Public Library Foundation, and Western Illinois Works c/o Knox County CEO Program.
