Galesburg’s 3rd Ward Alderwoman Lindsay Hillery has resigned from office.

Hillery’s past few months have included four arrests and now two separate pending felony cases.

Mayor Peter Schwartzman, as well as Council and City Administration received a letter from Hillery on Tuesday tendering her resignation immediately.

She was first elected in 2019, after narrowly defeating Russell Fleming.

Hillery writes in that letter. “I ran for City Council to help Galesburg, but the best way I can help right now is to let go.  The time has come for me to focus on my health and my family and to make the necessary steps to get my life back on track.”

Mayor Schwartzman says, “I appreciate her contributions and wish her and her family well. While these circumstances are unfortunate, the remaining members of the Council and I are very much focused on moving forward.”
