The Board of Trustees for Carl Sandburg College held a public hearing last week regarding the issuance of bonds to support new construction at the community college’s main campus.

There were no public comments made or written testimony received for the hearing regarding the issuance of $30-million, which was approved in September.

The project funded from the bonds would build a new science and technology center that would serve as a new focal point for the campus.

Trustees in October got their first look at the potential new building, which would either replace or be adjacent to the portion of Building B that currently holds the school’s automotive technology program.

Regardless of the option chosen, the automotive program would be moved to the Center for Manufacturing Excellence across the street in Building G.

The new two-storey building would offer views of Lake Storey and contain new, state-of-the-art classroom space, and offer a centralized location for the College’s Welcome Center and student services offices.
