The Knox County Board Wednesday night will consider approving several more grant requests for federal money from the American Rescue Plan Act.

Board documents show that the recipients being considered include the Galesburg Christian School for health-related improvements to the facility and to the National Railroad Hall of Fame for the construction of a new tourist facility.

Money could also go to the Stearman Foundation to recoup lost revenue and to help cover the addition to their facility, the Galesburg Civic Art Center for start-up local arts-related periodical, or the Galesburg Tourism and Visitors Bureau for a mural project, on the condition that murals funded be located outside of the City of Galesburg.

In total, county board members will consider disbursing $545,000 from the Community Grant Program and an additional $25,000 from the Health and Human Services Grant Program for the Volunteer Network on Aging (VNA) for home-delivered meals.

Board members could approve using ARPA money to fund the replacement of the Nursing Home’s parking lot. The bid from Gunther Construction for the work comes to $261,450.69.

Also up for consideration is the issuance of $9.3 million in General Obligation Bonds for the purpose of capital improvements. Board documents are light on details, however, there has been extensive talk in recent months of renovations and improvements needed at the jail.

In addition, the board will consider private room rate increases at the nursing home.

Rates are based on the level of skill care needed by residents and if those rooms will be semi-private, private, or private-suite. Room rates are also different for those in memory care.

The base rate for a semi-private room is increasing to $225 per day. Private rooms are going up to $235 and private suites to $255. Those in the Memory care unit are going up to $275. Each level of skilled care is an increase of $10 on top of the base rate.

The Knox County Board meets at Galesburg City Hall at 6:00 pm.
