Night Time Police Violent Crime Intervention. Police Vehicles with Flashing Lights.
Shortly after 8:30 pm on Monday, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 200 block of West Main Street for reports of a truck losing a tire while driving in the eastbound lane of West Main Street. Upon arrival, officers knew the truck was registered to a 32-year-old Galesburg man whom they’d had numerous previous encounters with. Witnesses told police they saw the back driver-side tire come off the truck, and when they went to assist the male driver, he realized the amount of damage and then just walked away leaving the truck sitting in the roadway with the hazard lights on. Officers saw the man exit a nearby bar and then return to the scene. The man admitted to consuming alcohol and admitted to driving the truck when the wheel flew off. Back at the Public Safety Building, the man refused to conduct a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest. The man’s breath sample read his BAC as .215. The man, who continually requested a beer from officers, told police he did not become inebriated until after his truck’s tire came off. After speaking with bar employees and witnesses, GPD learned the man did not even consume any alcohol while at the bar. The man was charged with DUI A1, DUI A2, DUI Violation – No Insurance, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Aggravated DUI – 3rd or more.
