Four adults charged after GPD responds to campground fight

Galesburg Police, shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, responded to the Allison Campground on South Lake Storey Road for a report of a disturbance involving numerous people fighting. A 31-year-old Galesburg man had burns on his arm, leg, and hand. A 26-year-old Galesburg woman had a “goose egg” sized knot on her head from being struck by a baseball bat, according to the victim. Both were transported to OSF for treatment.

Officers spoke with many witnesses – some giving conflicting accounts of what occurred. A 41-year-old Galesburg man was also treated at OSF for suffering burns during the incident, and a 39-year-old woman was treated for lacerations to her finger.

Some witnesses said the 26-year-old woman and another woman were intoxicated and acting inappropriately in front of children at the campsite. Other witnesses said the woman and 31-year-old man were “jumped” when they arrived.

All four of the adults involved who required medical treatment were charged with battery.
