Doris Boggs, 89, of Galesburg, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
Doris was born on September 6, 1934, in Osceola, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ray E. and Katherine (Vawn) Megrew. Doris married Lyman Boggs on September 7, 1952 in Osceola, Iowa. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 7, 2009. Surviving Doris are her sons, Douglas M. (Sherry) Boggs and Randy (Tammy) Boggs; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, daughter, and 1 daughter-in-law.
Doris enjoyed raising her family and being part of her community. She was a devout member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church (UMC). She held various jobs including working as a secretary at Black Hawk College. Her hobbies included swimming, poetry, writing short stories, painting, dancing and more.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Doris’ life service will be held at Galesburg United Methodist Church, 120 North Kellogg Street, Galesburg, at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, with meal to follow. Doris’ and Lyman’s ashes will be distributed at the East Linwood Cemetery Scattering Gardens at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024.
