Cindy Jo Ashby, 66, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago on Friday May 2, 2025.
Cindy was born August 2, 1958, in Quincy, Missouri, the daughter of Chester N. and Dorothy J. (Woodworth) McIntyre. Cindy graduated from Galesburg High School and Cosmetology School at Carl Sandburg College. She went on to have a long career working as a cosmetologist at J.C. Penney in Galesburg. In her later years she worked at Sally Beauty Supply.
Cindy married Larry D. Ashby on July 3, 1990, in Knoxville, Illinois. Cindy is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 34 years, Larry of Galesburg; one daughter, Letha “Michelle” (Michael) Dennison of Galesburg; one son, Stephen Ashby of Galesburg; and one sister, Tammy (Garry) Barton of Galesburg. Cindy is also survived by her beloved four grandchildren, Katherine (Zachary Pendergrass) Plackett, Payton Ashby, Skylar Ashby, and Mason (Callie) Ashby; and her five adorable great grandchildren, Eldon, Aiden, Demi, Liam, and Cason. She also leaves behind her dog, Gracie. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents; and her fur puppies, Jessie James and Grady.
Cindy held a strong Christian faith and was longtime member of Prairieland Baptist Church, until its closure. In past years she has been a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church in Galesburg. She loved her family deeply and thoroughly loved being with them. Cindy and Larry enjoyed traveling and enjoying the beauty of the world around her. They spent many summers camping at Young’s Lake.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Pastor Darrell Grimm will officiate. Burial will follow at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to New Life Baptist Church or to the Knox County Humane Society.
