Cole, Frederick L. ‘Jack’

Mr. Frederick L. “Jack” Cole, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born February 12, 1935, in Monmouth, Illinois to Fred P. and Zella (Stegall) Cole.  He married Jean A. Morss in 1961.  He later married Sally Ralls in 1994.  She preceded him in death in 2018.  

Surviving is a son, Frederick Cole of Galesburg, a daughter, Catherine Engstrom of Crocker, Missouri, a sister, Grace Courtright of Galesburg, four grandchildren, Cathy, Carissa, Caitlin, and Destany, and several great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Cole, and three sisters, Ruby Melton, Mary Rynearson, and Jean Gummerson.  

Jack attended Hazel Green School and later graduated from Knoxville High School, Knoxville, Illinois.  He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 during the end of the Korean Conflict.  He received the National Defense and Good Conduct Medals.  Jack was a livestock and grain farmer his whole life.  He farmed in the Maquon, New Windsor and Wataga areas.  He also worked for the Abingdon Pottery for a short time.  He was a member of the Chestnut Township Board.  He collected knives and guns and enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting.  

As Frederick requested, cremation will be accorded.  No service will be scheduled.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
