Galesburg man identified as victim in fatal train collision; coroner says death appears accidental

The Knox County Coroner says the death of a Galesburg man struck by a train Thursday afternoon appears to have been accidental.

Coroner Jacque Dare identified the victim as David Lynn Edwardson, 41, of Galesburg. Dare said the family has been notified. Edwardson was struck by a train in the 800 block of Peck Street at approximately 1:51 p.m. Thursday, April 30. He was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m.

Dare told WGIL that while the investigation is continuing, she believes the death was accidental. An autopsy is being conducted today (Friday) by the Peoria County Coroner’s office.

The Galesburg Police Department is continuing its investigation. The department was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Galesburg Fire Department, and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service.
