Mrs. Evelyn I. Goodin, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 5:52 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Grand Victorian Assisted Living of Rockford, with her loved ones by her side.
Evelyn was born on February 10, 1929, in Hancock County, Illinois, the daughter of Walter S. and Mary M. (Leffers) Pieper. She married the love of her life, Dwight L. Goodin, on May 15, 1947, in Benton, Illinois, and together they shared nearly 79 years of marriage filled with family and devotion.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dwight; three sons, Frank L. (Karen) Goodin of Madison, Wisconsin, Richard “Dick” L. (Barb) Goodin of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Donald L. (Rose) Goodin of Rockford, Illinois; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, William and Walter Jr., and sisters, Edna Smith, Dorothy Hale, Alice Henry, Betty Connor, and her great-grandchild, Benjamin.
Evelyn graduated from Bushnell High School with the Class of 1946. She spent her working career as a clerk for the Knox County Assessment Office, where she worked for 21 years before retiring in 1991. In her free time recently and past, she loved to read, quilt, bowl, shop, and enjoyed watching comedy television.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois, with Pastor Mark Dexter officiating.
