LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) — The new president of two-year Lincoln College in central Illinois hopes to lead the school to four-year, university status.
President David Gerlach told The Pantagraph in Bloomington that he hopes to add five to seven bachelor’s-degree programs at the private school in Lincoln. Lincoln is about 30 miles southwest of Bloomington.
Gerlach says Lincoln was started as a four-year school in 1865 but scaled back during the Depression. It still offers two bachelor’s degrees In Lincoln and seven more at a satellite campus in Normal, though most are through an accelerated-education program.
Gerlach said full, four-year status would allow Lincoln to help Illinois’ economy grow while building the school and its enrollment.
Lincoln now has about 1,500 students.
Gerlach took over on June 15.
