Galesburg police are investigating evidence of shots fired in the early morning yesterday at La Mesa.
Police reports show officers heard what sounded like six to 10 gunshots before 1 a.m. yesterday near the downtown tavern. The officers were responding to an unrelated call.
A La Mesa bartender reported hearing multiple gunshots and the sound of something hitting the building.
A witness told police he heard four gunshots from the area of Academy Street southwest of the bar.
Police at the scene found possible bullet holes on the building’s north side. They did not observe any bullets lodged in the holes and no shell casings were found.
The case has been turned over to the Galesburg Police Department investigations unit.
