Former Monmouth College baseball player Ross Clayton was eliminated from Season 23 of NBC’s The Voice Monday night after making it all the way to the Top 20.

Clayton just missed the semifinals Monday after signing U2’s ‘With or Without You.”

Throughout his run on the show, Clayton also sang ‘Dirty Work’ by Steely Dan and ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty.

Clayton told WGIL in March that on a show like The Voice you have to be true to yourself.

“You can’t just give the people what they want,” Clayton says.

“You got to stay true to yourself otherwise you’ll be mad at yourself down the road. If you turn into an artist that just isn’t you, that would be your biggest regret. So my goal is to stay true to myself.”

Clayton now of McCloud, Oklahoma is a husband and father of three who took a break from singing for about 5 years.

He then got an email from the producers of The Voice wanting him to submit a short audition tape.

When Clayton got a coveted 4-chair turn during his blind auditions he selected One Direction’s Niall Horan as his coach after an impassioned, hands-and-knees plea.

Clayton posted to Facebook Tuesday saying, “That was one hell of a ride!,” and thanking his wife, kids and coach.

He also promised his fans much more to come from him including, “new music, new shows, and the works.”
