Note: This story has been updated with added details from Galesburg Fire Chief Randy Hovind.
Minor injuries were reported after water damage led to an interior portion of the roof to collapse on patrons Monday at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, located at 1850 N. Henderson St.
Galesburg Fire Chief Randy Hovind said a portion of the roof had been leaking for some time, causing several ceiling panels and a vent to drop on to a booth occupied by patrons on the north side of the restaurant. He said the patrons sustained minor injuries.
Hovind said he notified the Knox County Health Department and they advised Perkins to close until repairs were made to the roof.
Contacted on Friday afternoon, a manager at Perkins said the restaurant is undergoing maintenance work and she anticipates the restaurant to reopen Saturday. The restaurant was open Saturday.
Crews from a local construction firm and a local roofing company could be seen working on both the interior and exterior of the building Friday morning.
