Combites, Marilee

Marilee June Combites, 82, of Avon, Illinois, passed away at 12:25 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Roseville Rehab and Healthcare Center in Roseville. She was born February 9, 1942, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Marvin and Helen Smith. She was raised and educated in Bushnell/Prairie City and graduated from Bushnell/Prairie City High School in 1960.

She married Tommy Combites on June 19, 1960, in the Prairie City Methodist Church and he survives.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; daughters, Sandra (Duane) Sheckler of Avon, Susan (Keith) Rose of Avon; grandchildren, Jess (Jaclyn) Sheckler of Avon, Evan (Ronni) Sheckler of Bettendorf, IA, Jonah Sheckler of Granite City, IL, Matthew Rose of Quincy, IL and Amanda Rose of Galesburg; great-grandsons, Drew, Cole, Owen and Jude Sheckler; sister, Maggie (Mike) Dutton of Monmouth, IL. Several nieces and nephews, great-nieces & nephews also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Combites and three sisters.

Marilee was a homemaker and also babysat several children for many years. She loved to sew, crochet and quilt. She was an amazing cook. She was a people person and very gregarious. She would always help anyone who needed it. She was an avid gardener and canner. She was an avid reader and loved all genres of books. She loved to sing and sang with her sisters in her youth. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a long-time member of the Roseville Christian Church. 

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in the Prairie City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home, Avon, is handling the arrangements.
