baked is at it again.
The Galesburg pizzeria at 57 S. Seminary St. has been named the best hole-in-the-wall pizza spot in Illinois by The Takeout, a national food publication. The Takeout set out to find the top mom-and-pop pizza shops in every state — places where owners are actively involved and dedicated to making every slice count.
The recognition was published April 8 and has since been picked up by Secret Chicago, which called baked Illinois’ best-kept secret and noted the restaurant’s playful, creative approach to pizza rooted in classic home-style cooking.
Secret Chicago highlighted baked’s bread-like crust and carefully sourced ingredients, and pointed to creative combinations like goat cheese with herbs and brisket topped with blue cheese as examples of what sets the pizzeria apart.
It is not the first time baked has turned heads nationally. In 2023, Yelp ranked baked the No. 1 pizza restaurant in Illinois and among the top 40 in the country.
