Swedish traditions shine bright at Bishop Hill’s Lucia Nights

The 2024 Lucia Nights (Festival of Lights) is set for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14 at Historic Bishop Hill. It runs from 6-9 p.m.

The Swedish tradition is based on a legend of Saint  Lucia, Queen of Light.

On both nights, businesses and museums will have Lucia Girls to greet guests. Around the village, each building will have a single candle in each and every window, and sidewalks will also be illuminated by candles. Restaurants will be open both evenings. Special Christmas gifts will also be on sale at all the stores.

Todd DeDecker, administrator at the Bishop Hill Historical Association, joined WGIL's Tyler Gumm and Jay Redfern on Galesburg's Morning News to preview the event.
