The USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place Saturday, May 10. This event is the nation's largest single-day food collection effort, with letter carriers ready to make a difference. Joining Galesburg's Morning News to preview the event were Sarah Overhake and Russ Overhake from the Galesburg Post Office, along with Joshua Daniels and Rachel Crouch, representing Hy-Vee.
Here's how Galesburg residents can easily participate:
- Leave non-perishable food items like canned or dry goods by your mailbox or on your porch on Saturday, May 10.
- Your letter carrier, already on their route, will pick up the donations as they deliver mail.
- This week, bags donated by the local Hy-Vee are being delivered with reminder cards to make donating easier.
The collected food will be donated to the local FISH food pantry in Galesburg. In addition to donating bags, their Henderson Street location will host a collection event this Saturday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can drop off donations there, and they will also have a kids carnival and grilling.
Hy-Vee also offers $5, $10, and $15 grab bags containing various non-perishable food items (like canned vegetables, beans, soup mixes, fruit snacks). These are available for purchase at the front of the Henderson Street store or through their online shopping platform.
