Galesburg man hiding in crawl space arrested on weapon, home invasion warrants

Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies, working with the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested a wanted Galesburg man Monday after he fled and hid in a crawl space.

Jamar Whiteside-Banks, 31, was taken into custody without incident in the 500 block of Losey Street after surveillance spotted him at a residence.

When officers attempted contact, Whiteside-Banks fled but was located hiding in a concealed crawl space inside the home.

A search warrant was executed, yielding a firearm and drug paraphernalia.

Whiteside-Banks was held on active warrants from Knox, Peoria and Henry counties, including possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated fleeing and eluding, home invasion and failure to appear. Additional charges are pending.

He was transported to the Knox County Jail.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service and Galesburg Police Department for assistance.
