
Galesburg is getting a new voice to showcase its events, businesses and hidden gems: Sarah Smith has been named director of the Galesburg Tourism & Visitors Bureau, bringing fresh ideas from her successful tourism work in Clinton, Iowa.
Smith started started her role in Galesburg on Monday.
“The GTVB Board of Directors is excited to welcome Sarah to Galesburg,” said Denise Gerstenberger, vice president. “Sarah, who most recently served in tourism in Clinton, Iowa, will bring experience and a fresh perspective to the organization. Sarah’s enthusiasm and passion for marketing will be a great benefit to the organization.”
Smith has experience in strategic marketing, communications and community-centered storytelling. In her previous role, she modernized the destination image, increased visibility, restored local pride and positioned the community for residents and visitors.
As director, Smith will lead tourism strategy, highlighting Galesburg’s events, businesses and unique experiences to attract visitors and create economic impact. She will also represent the area on regional, state and national levels, working with partners to expand tourism benefits.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to share Galesburg’s story and highlight everything this community has to offer,” Smith said. “My first focus is connecting with the community and strengthening local pride. When residents feel engaged and businesses feel supported, tourism becomes more authentic and impactful. I look forward to building on the board’s strong foundation and showcasing Galesburg as a place people are proud to call home and excited to explore.”

Smith replaces Randy Newcomb, who left the same role in Galesburg to become director of the Frankfort Tourist Commission in Frankfort, Kentucky.
