An impressive list of running backs — several who have played major college football and one who even played in the NFL — have carried the ball for Galesburg High School, but none of them rushed for more yards than today's guest.
A 2015 Galesburg High School graduate, Ben Holloway finished his career with 2,940 rushing yards, tops for any player in Galesburg football history, dating back to 1906. Nearly as remarkable, he fumbled only THREE times in 438 carries.
But Ben was more than a talented athlete — he was a winner. A rare 3-year, 2-way starter, he helped lead the Streaks to state playoff appearances in 2012 and 2014 — making him one of the first Galesburg players to ever play in the postseason in two different seasons.
His coach at Galesburg, Tim Dougherty, says Ben is one of the best players he's ever coached in his 45 years, describing him as a playmaker who, “Just had that IT factor.”
Ben Holloway, now a senior buyer for Honeywell Aerospace, residing in Glendale, Arizona, joins WGIL's Jay Redfern to talk about his record-setting Streaks career.
